Junior Data Scientist

    NUMBER OF STUDENTS PER CLASSROOM

    Our institution is characterized by a more personalized education by having classrooms with 20 to 25 students.

    CURRICULUM

    The School is accredited by the Ministry of National Education and by Cognia, an international organization with high quality standards that allows us to grant double degrees to our students. All of our students receive bilingual instruction in English and Spanish.

    STUDENT POPULATION

    We have more than 1800 students divided into 4 sections, where 87% are Colombian and the remaining 13% are from other nationalities.

    Professional Learning

    At TCS we believe in ongoing job-embedded professional learning through the support of coaches and Professional Learning Communities. Lasting impact results when educators engage in practices that focus on collective educator efficacy and learning in collaborative communities. To foster this learning we commit to structures that support collaboration and organize learning opportunities at school to ensure lasting impact. Individuals in leadership roles will attend conferences as needed to further their knowledge to support and train the rest of the staff.

     

    Support for Academic Teaching staff

    • Coaches

    At TCS, we believe that everyone deserves a coach. Therefore, we have Instructional Coaches that support staff in the areas of instruction, literacy, classroom environment, and technology. The coaches support teachers through individual coaching cycles, team coaching cycles, curriculum development and staff development sessions.

     

    Professional Learning Opportunities on campus

    • Professional Learning Communities

    All teachers participate in weekly PLC (Professional Learning Communities) with their team focused on student learning and strategies to support students.

    • School-hosted professional learning

    Each year we host different workshops offered by outside organizations that are open to staff to apply to attend. Some examples of workshops we have hosted are: Cognitive Coaching, WIDA International Institute , Child Protection Level I training, and Restorative Justice Level 1 Training.

    • Professional Learning Days

    Each year we have 8-9 days dedicated to professional learning on campus. On these days, we learn as a staff through workshops aligned to our Strategic Plan, host “Teachers-Teaching-Teachers” workshops and workshops offered by outside organizations.

    • SUNY Buffalo Master’s Degree>

    Staff at TCS can choose to enroll in a Master’s Degree program offered on campus. The program is A Masters of Science in Multidisciplinary Studies Degree from SUNY Buffalo completed over 3 school years. This program is heavily subsidized by TCS and currently costs $250 per course for a total of $2,500 for a Master’s degree (the cost is reviewed on a yearly basis and subject to change).

    Professional Learning Opportunities off campus

    • Staff can apply to attend local conferences or conferences abroad that support their role. However, we limit attendance to conferences as we believe in job-embedded on campus learning.

     

    • Online Professional Learning

    We encourage staff to pursue learning through webinars and virtual courses. We often have several staff members participate in the same webinar/course and form a learning community to discuss how to apply what they have learned.

    At The Columbus School we believe in job embedded ongoing professional learning.  In order to support the learning of our staff the school has employed Instructional Coaches.  

    Elementary School

    2 Literacy Coaches—The literacy coaches support teachers in their development and employment of the Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop model as well as best practices around literacy and instruction.

    Spanish/Sociales Coach–The Spanish coach supports the Elementary Spanish/Sociales teachers in their development and employment of the Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop model as well as best practices around literacy and instruction.

    Instructional Coach–The Elementary Instructional Coach focuses on math instruction as well as support teachers in classroom management and instructional practices

    Middle and High School

    Instructional CoachThe Secondary Instructional Coach focuses on supporting teachers in classroom management and instructional practices

    Math Coach- The Secondary Math coach focuses on supporting teachers math practices and managing the structure for the intervention program for math in grades 6-12.

    K-12

    Science Coach–The Science Coach works k-12 to support teachers in curriculum development and lesson design for science.

    Technology Coach–The Technology Coach works k-12 to support teachers in curriculum development, use of technology and STEM practices.

    Buffalo Masters Program

    At The Columbus School the continued professional learning of our staff is important to us. In order to support this learning, we offer a Master’s of Science in Multidisciplinary Studies from The State University of New York (SUNY) College at Buffalo :

    This program is appropriate for teachers from K4-12. The program consists of 10 courses (3 credits per course). Within the course of study there is a Master’s Project and Research Course that will be taken. The entire program is available on our campus and can be completed in three years.     The program is substantially subsidized by the School for staff members. In order to begin courses in September of each school year the applicant must first be accepted by SUNY. As a condition of acceptance perspective students must have an English level according to the Common European Framework of B2. Continuity depends upon demand.

    International Recruitment Fairs

    A large part of our teachers are of North American origin, which gives our organizational culture a truly multicultural and global-minded spirit. In order to hire the best international teachers, the Columbus School visits international recruitment fairs in different cities twice a year.

    Corporate Plans

    We offer corporate plans to all staff in topics such as: cell phones, healthcare and life policies at lower prices than those in the market with the possibility of paying them through payroll deductions. 

    Days Off

    The School offers 2 personal days and around 11 weeks off during the year (including vacation) and Colombian holidays for academic staff. Administrative support staff have a package of free days during the school year, as well as 15 days of vacation in December.

    Housing

    The apartments where our foreign hired teachers live are rented directly by the school. The first year of the contract the apartment is chosen by the institution. After this time, the teacher may look for another apartment with recommendations from the school.
    The school also provides furniture, household effects and assistance with housing repairs.

    Two-year Initial Contract

    The school offers a two year initial contract and renewals after the initial contract.

    Masters Program in our Campus

    Our staff may register for a Master’s Program in Multidisciplinary Studies from Buffalo State University at SUNY right here at our own campus! The program is substantially subsidized by the school for staff members.

    Medical Coverage

    Foreign hired staff are covered by a Colombian medical plan. The school also offers an insurance plan with international emergency coverage, which includes: doctor appointments, hospitalization and preventive dental care.

    The School will offer you a reduced tuition fee at The Columbus School for up two children.

    The school pays travel expenses in coach from the closest international airport to Medellín and a return trip at the end of the original two-year contract.

    The School provides an increase in the relocation bonus upon renewal of the contract of USD$2,500 for the third, USD$2,000 the fourth and USD$1,500 for the fifth year.

    The school offers a USD $2,000 bonus if the teacher makes a commitment for two more years after the initial contract.

    Every year, the peso salary will be adjusted in an amount determined by the Board of Directors and the Parent Assembly.

    In order to improve the communication skills in Spanish, the School offers a 50% discount for Spanish lessons for foreign hired staff.

    The Columbus School provides transportation to and from school daily during academic periods along predetermined routes.

    At the beginning of the original contract, the equivalent of US$500 will be paid in Colombian Pesos upon arrival in Medellin.

    The school will assume the fee of the working visa and also gives you assistance with the process.
